I was wrong. This is my mea culpa. I have done “work” and realized that I have erred in describing “Diversity” to people that read my writings. If you asked me before my research last weekend and this, I would have told you that Diversity, especially in hiring, is a way of guaranteeing that all perspectives and lived experiences are included. Of course, this does not include conservatize mindsets.
This is an inadequate definition. It doesn’t explain why white men still have jobs. It also leaves too much up to chance for woke HR professionals. No. Diversity is MUCH, MUCH more nefarious.
Diversity does mean including people from a myriad of perceivable identities, but it is not concerned with putting a quota on it. While activists may feign an attempt a developing hiring identity quotas, this is either due to a misunderstanding of the purpose, or an intentional misdirection. This can lead conservatives to draw inaccurate conclusions about what diversity means.
““Diversity” may be outwardly sold as the hope that America, always a diverse country, can afford equal opportunities to all its citizens. It is the opposite of this color-blind promise, however; it mandates numerical proportionalism at schools and places of employment and, yes, make no mistake, eventually laws that take account of a person’s race.”-The Heritage Foundation; How the Left’s Brand of Diversity Promotes Division
More than Identity
Diversity is more than just a “race-conscious” practice. It is an ideologically conscious practice. If diversity boiled down to identity:
Scott Newgent, a trans-identifying individual, would not have been cancelled on twitter. Here His lived experiences would be valued because they are HIS lived experiences.
Larry Elder and Herschel Walker, two black men wouldn’t be the black faces of white supremacy or Uncle Toms. They would be two black men with legitimate life experiences and truths that would have to be respected by liberal media.
Despite systems and society marginalizing women, J.K. Rowling, a self-described feminist can be railed against and ensuing cancellation attempt by a leftist media when she doesn’t regurgitate the dominant orthodoxy of the left.
Despite belonging to a group that would clearly qualify each of them as a desired diversity hire, it seems they are still condemned by the left when their world view doesn’t comport with the discourse. You see, in diversity, identity isn’t enough. You can tell it isn’t enough because of the concept of intersectionality first introduced by Kimberly Crenshaw, an activist and critical race theorist, also isn’t enough.
“Intersectionality is a lens through which you can see where power comes and collides, where it interlocks and intersects. It’s not simply that there’s a race problem here, a gender problem here, and a class or LBGTQ problem there. Many times that framework erases what happens to people who are subject to all of these things.” -Kimberly Crenshaw
Scott Newgent doesn’t understand what it means to be a trans-man because he doesn’t view the world as one who does/should. Larry Elder and Hershel Walker are complicit in white supremacy because they are not condemning it as a black man would/should. This is the body of identity politics as conservatives understand it and it has been around since before the rise of the black panthers. Tribalism.
“Sometimes a fruit falls from a tree and rolls so far away from its roots that it's no longer of the tree. The hard fall, and long journey, bruises the fruit so much that it totally changes it. It’s the same way for some of our people. This is why some can’t be awakened regardless of how much truth you present to them. This journey has totally brainwashed them to such a degree that they're no longer of the original tree.” -Malcolm X
J.K. Rowling is a notable example to use because she is a leftist herself. She engaged in retroactively making characters of her famous children’s book series gay to appease the leftist mob. Her ostracization from the party tells conservatives that just espousing the correct talking points from an individual perspective is not enough. One must understand and espouse the assumed experiences of others’ lived experiences as well. Her unwillingness to step aside and affirm a man pretending to be a woman meant she was particularly lacking in diversity. She does not understand intersectionality.
“Intersectionality in the workplace centers on understanding intersectionality and how the interplay of identities affects certain individuals and groups in the context of work.” - The Academy to Innovate HR
Diversity is the measure of an organization’s and person’s commitment to the ideology.
You see, diversity can exist within a single individual. Diversity is the mindset of the woke. This way woke activist can ensure that pillars of power ONLY contain purveyors of the correct doctrine. It is also why, despite the tyranny of heterosexual, white, Christian men. Those men still sit in seats of power.
In the beginning of this article, you can see that some people in The Heritage Foundation view diversity initiatives as a new age Affirmative Action. It is not.
“They are complementary in function, but different in their origins and goals. While affirmative action focuses on taking positive steps to get individuals into the organization, diversity in the workplace works to change the culture within.” - Diversity & Affirmative Action in the Workplace: 6 Tips to Stay Compliant
You can see that this applies to education the same way it applies to the private sector.
“Demanding that someone of a certain identity be hired when what you really want is someone of a particular ideology is a little like breaking your foot and telling the surgeon your arm hurts and requires an operation. It is both the wrong description of the problem and a potentially disastrous solution.” - What Do We Really Mean When We Say We Are Hiring For Identity
In both examples you can see that the intent of diversity isn’t really to establish a quota for identity sake. It is to change the culture of the adopting institution.
Conservatives must understand
Ayanna Presley said it out-loud during an on-stage panel.
“Because if you're going to come to this table, all of you who have aspirations of running for office. If you’re not prepared to come to that table and represent that voice, don’t come, because we don't need any more brown faces that don't want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don't want to be a black voice. We don't need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don't want to be a queer voice. If you’re worried about being marginalized and stereotyped, please don't even show up because we need you to represent that voice." - Rep. Ayanna Pressley: "We Don't Need Any More Brown Faces That Don't Want To Be A Brown Voice"
Woke requires more than just BEING a person the left sees as marginalized. Believing and regurgitating the ideology makes you hirable even if you belong to an understood privileged identity. To be fair, competency and merit STILL take a back burner. Unfortunately, such a devotion to this ideology means that precious mental real estate that would normally be taken up with job qualifying knowledge is displaced by identity Marxism.
This new, refined understanding of diversity makes it more imperative that conservatives understand what they are up against. Not being woke means you may not pass the application process for your field. This is particularly true in education and human resources departments.
Conservatives must demand that the only ideological descrimination we can allow is descrimination against ideologies that attempt to squash opposition outside of persuasion. Identity Marxism is one such ideology. Diversity is a measure of devotion to it.
